How can I tell how old it is?
The last 4 digits of code on the pouch signify the Julian date and year the product was produced, i.e., KFA24B1238 (123rd day of 1998). The third number on the cans signifies the year the product was produced, i.e., 618A2238 (223rd day of 1998).

How long is it good for unopened?
Pouches and cans keep for several years after the date of production.

Once opened how long is it good for, and how should it be stored?
Store leftovers in an airtight container in refrigerator for 3 to 5 days, or wrap well and freeze for up to 3 months.

Will it keep better if I refrigerate it unopened?
No, temperature (hot or cold) will not affect the fish in any way, fillet is best served at room temperature.

The smoked salmon pouch will last for several years without refrigeration unopened. Once opened like any other seafood, refrigerate and eat with 3-4 days or wrap and freeze after opening.
